The project
The Marina d’Arechi Port Village is located to the east of the city of Salerno, at the gateway to the Amalfi Coast and the island of Capri going northwards, with the Cilento Coast and region lying to the south.
Santiago Calatrava has transformed the traditional design of a marina by introducing a modern and innovative architectural theme which is simply stunning.Salerno can now boast a yachting harbour that is a pure work of contemporary and ecosustainable art, and not just a waterfront infrastructure.
Port Village
The Marina d’Arechi, port and village in one, can vie with the most glamorous and exclusive of maritime resorts. Calatrava has created an authentic village atmosphere where anyone who loves the sea and sailing will be captivated by the architect’s skill. The Marina D’Arechi Port Village has berthing for about a thousand boats (with lengths ranging from ten to sixty metres). It has been designed with plenty of open green areas, some space for entertainment and recreation, and the rest for vital provision of marine and customer services for visitors. These are available year-round and accessible from land and sea. If it’s relaxation in delightful surroundings you are looking for, you will find them here in the Port Village.
The wide green pedestrian zones and leisure areas are all in a style which creates the calm and confident feeling sought by holiday makers worldwide.
Absolute priority has been given to fully protecting the port’s environment and the adjacent coastline. The architectural techniques employed by Calatrava have resulted in the construction of a 70-metre wide canal to separate the land from the sea. To access the Port Village from the land side, vehicles and people cross the canal by a series of bridges.
