44th Offshore Winter Championship of the Gulf of Salerno

The most anticipated sailing event of the winter season has officially begun: the Offshore Winter Championship of the Gulf of Salerno, now in its 44th edition.

Among the crews on the starting line is our team Stupefacente – Marina d’Arechi, ready to give their best from day one.
The opening day featured windward–leeward races valid for the “Enrico Paglioli” Trophy, organised by the Salerno branch of the Italian Naval League.

Twenty-four boats lined up at the start, divided as follows: 5 Minialtura, 15 Cruising Class and 4 Racer-Cruiser, representing the FIV sailing clubs of Salerno, Agropoli and Torre del Greco.

The report of the first race gives us a challenging day, with a residual westerly swell exceeding one metre and an unexpected light breeze from the east, skilfully used by the Race Committee to run the first and only race of the day. In the Regatta Class, the Stupefacente–Marina d’Arechi team led by Antonello Stanzione of ASD Marina confirmed its first place; in the Cruising Class, Wanaka by Francesco Bove of Circolo Azimut took the lead; and in the Minialtura Class, Area 51–Grazie Fabrizio by Andrea Marotta of the Italian Naval League of Salerno won the top spot.

The programme will continue on Saturday, 14 December, with the second stage, the Marina Cup Regatta, which will also award the Marina d’Arechi Trophy.
